Dr. Ashley Ulmer
Dr. Ashley Ulmer has lived in Spokane for most of her life and always anticipated returning home after dental school to serve the community where she was raised.
EDUCATION
She achieved Dean’s list honors from 1994-1999 and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in German with a minor in Chemistry from Eastern Washington University in 1999.
After receiving her undergraduate degree, Dr. Ulmer chose to pursue dentistry because she found it to be a fascinating blend of artistry, biomechanics, psychology, and science in a small, independent business. In 2003 she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Washington School of Dentistry where she was also awarded the Dr. William S. Kramer Award of Excellence Dental Honor from Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
After dental school at UW, Dr. Ulmer entered two separate, highly sought after residencies to advance her education of general dentistry. She spent one year of advanced education in general dentistry Residency at the A.L. Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio, Texas and a second year of general practice residency at the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle.
Dr. Ulmer received her Western Regional Exam Board License and has carried her Washington State Dental License since 2003.
EXPERIENCE
Dr. Ulmer gained clinical experience while working at the Kaiser Permanente Volunteer Free Clinic, Veteran’s Dental Outpatient Clinic, and the AIDS Clinic, and through her assistance with mission work in Belize in 2004. Through these first-hand experiences working at various clinics, her desire to change people’s lives through dentistry was reinforced.
Dr. Ulmer has been a solo private practitioner in North Spokane since July 2005. She enjoys the challenge and opportunity to practice dentistry on her own and finds managing her staff and patients very rewarding.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Dr. Ulmer’s extensive involvement and professional affiliation with several local organizations, including the American Dental Association and the Washington State Dental Association, has given her opportunities to seek ways to impact the lives of people in our community through organized dentistry.
She is an active member of the Spokane District Dental Society and member of the board of directors for the Washington State Dental Association. Her participation on the Spokane District Dental Society Foundation has provided a platform to assist with the creation of the IDEA Clinic, a facility for individual dentists to provide treatment and solutions for people who are in need of, but unable to afford a dental “home” and is a place where local dentists can educate and mentor the next generation of dental professionals.
